Silver haz to have surgery :(

I have a lump that my doctors want removing ... I wouldn't mind, since it's been giving ... let's say ... 'bother', but it's on my face. And since it has to be surgically removed, I'm going to have a scar on my face. SILVER IS NOT HAPPEH.

Still ... at least my headaches might stop!

Now, all I need is a cure for asthma ....

Anything to cure headaches can bring some happiness... besides, scars are sexy and add character. ;-)

But, you'll be okay, right? I mean, this should make you better, yes?

(all my artistic talent has disappeared, or I would attempt to draw you something, umm, but know that I'm thinking of you.) ::hugshugshugshugshugshugs::

I'll hopefully be fine, and hopefully this will make me better.

If the headaches don't stop, then it's something else, and the whole rigmarole starts again! pah!

I just had a lump removed from my areola. I am on LJ in an attempt to distract myself scratching the stitches.
I am only 29 but my Mum died of breast cancer when i was 15, so I figure a scar is a small price to pay. I dont get the pathology back til next week, but better out than in right?
I figure, this new scar just adds to to patchwork i already have, they are all stories. Some mark the trauma that was my birth (i was cut during my emergency C-section birth), some mark interventions that saved my life as an adult and one marks a spot where another 9 year old got a little pissed that i got the last chair in musical chairs and took a swing at my face. I wouldnt erase any of them.
hope your little surgery goes well and you gets lots of love and good care xx

*MASSIVE HUGS*

My doctor agrees with 'better out than in' - I'm not even getting a biopsy, just having it whipped out.

I get what you're saying about scars having stories, and it does make me feel a bit better. Maybe it shall be an ice breaker? XD

In this case, the cure is inevitably better than the alternative.

Besides, scars are trendy. It'll bring all the boys to your yard, or something like that. :)

You know, scars are sexy and you can have a mystery as how you got to have it!
Good luck with your surgery honey and I hope doctors do a good job so you won't get a very big scar!

Hugs!

I hope it goes well, better to get rid of it than have it causing trouble! Besides, scars aren't bad, you can make up funny stories about how you got it.
I knew someone who accidentally stuck her arm through a window and has a huge scar on her arm now. Whenever someone asked about it she'd come up with a different story about it and see how long they believed her. Shark attack, got in a fight with a rodeo clown, freak sledding accident (during the summer), etc.

Oh, dear, I'm sorry to hear this. But I know it will all turn out well. :)

Scars can be interesting, but if you have the option, my brother Will (a plastic surgeon) suggests you talk to your doctor about the possibility of having a plastic surgeon do the opening and closing on your surgery. He said it is done all the time in the US, particularly during facial and hand surgery, and helps to minimize scarring. Also, after the incision has healed, the plastic surgeon can then further minimize the scar with laser surgery.

And if you ever find the cure for asthma, let me know!

"done all the time in the US"

That's in the US though, Silver is in the UK, things are different here.

If you can get some Mederma scar cream and start applying it once the wound is seal and is still bright pink, the cream will make the scar fade to pretty much none-existent.

I used that on my breasts when I had a reduction. Almost completely invisible.

Hey hun. If it's any consolation, I had an enormous cyst removed from my right cheek many years ago and I was the same as you. Totally horrified that I'd look like the elephant woman. When I came out of surgery, they told me the scar was going to be a lot bigger than originally anticipated because there were "complications".

Well, honestly, today you can't see it unless I point it out and people get up super close. And surgery techniques are a lot more advanced than they were 15 years ago when mine was done. I can guarantee they'll do everything in their power to make the scar as small as possible.

Don't freak out when you first see it because it will take months for it to heal and the scar to fade. But it WILL fade. I used a bees wax-based gel in mine -ask at your chemist - and I swear it did the trick.

Hugs and best wishes!

Try not to freak out at first. All new scars look so much worse at first. Later it will probably be a thin white line you don't notice unless you look really hard.

I had an enormous cyst just below my eyebrow removed. Now, I can hardly tell it's there. Besides the other advise on creams, etc to minimize scarring, I recommend using a very strong sunscreen for the first year. Scars sunburn easy the first year.

I have a new one on my nose to keep out of the sun this year. Fell flat on my face & broke my nose. I have this big crooked gash there now. I wish I could say this was a medical reason, instead of explaining I was just a complete clutz!

Since I don't have insurance, I never even got it stitched closed. Already not too bad. Ithink I need to come up with a cool cover story, though!
