Silver haz to have surgery :(
I have a lump that my doctors want removing ... I wouldn't mind, since it's been giving ... let's say ... 'bother', but it's on my face. And since it has to be surgically removed, I'm going to have a scar on my face. SILVER IS NOT HAPPEH.
Still ... at least my headaches might stop!
Now, all I need is a cure for asthma ....

Date: 2010-03-28 07:23 am (UTC)I am only 29 but my Mum died of breast cancer when i was 15, so I figure a scar is a small price to pay. I dont get the pathology back til next week, but better out than in right?
I figure, this new scar just adds to to patchwork i already have, they are all stories. Some mark the trauma that was my birth (i was cut during my emergency C-section birth), some mark interventions that saved my life as an adult and one marks a spot where another 9 year old got a little pissed that i got the last chair in musical chairs and took a swing at my face. I wouldnt erase any of them.
hope your little surgery goes well and you gets lots of love and good care xx

I get what you're saying about scars having stories, and it does make me feel a bit better. Maybe it shall be an ice breaker? XD

Date: 2010-03-28 02:35 pm (UTC)I knew someone who accidentally stuck her arm through a window and has a huge scar on her arm now. Whenever someone asked about it she'd come up with a different story about it and see how long they believed her. Shark attack, got in a fight with a rodeo clown, freak sledding accident (during the summer), etc.

Date: 2010-03-28 04:40 pm (UTC)Scars can be interesting, but if you have the option, my brother Will (a plastic surgeon) suggests you talk to your doctor about the possibility of having a plastic surgeon do the opening and closing on your surgery. He said it is done all the time in the US, particularly during facial and hand surgery, and helps to minimize scarring. Also, after the incision has healed, the plastic surgeon can then further minimize the scar with laser surgery.
And if you ever find the cure for asthma, let me know!

Date: 2010-03-29 10:42 am (UTC)Well, honestly, today you can't see it unless I point it out and people get up super close. And surgery techniques are a lot more advanced than they were 15 years ago when mine was done. I can guarantee they'll do everything in their power to make the scar as small as possible.
Don't freak out when you first see it because it will take months for it to heal and the scar to fade. But it WILL fade. I used a bees wax-based gel in mine -ask at your chemist - and I swear it did the trick.
Hugs and best wishes!

Date: 2010-03-29 03:23 pm (UTC)I had an enormous cyst just below my eyebrow removed. Now, I can hardly tell it's there. Besides the other advise on creams, etc to minimize scarring, I recommend using a very strong sunscreen for the first year. Scars sunburn easy the first year.
I have a new one on my nose to keep out of the sun this year. Fell flat on my face & broke my nose. I have this big crooked gash there now. I wish I could say this was a medical reason, instead of explaining I was just a complete clutz!
Since I don't have insurance, I never even got it stitched closed. Already not too bad. Ithink I need to come up with a cool cover story, though!
