Hahaha, this is brilliant! Never been trolled myself (...at least, I don't remember if I have), so I'll definitely keep this in mind, just in case :D

I especially loved the Torchwood reference, btw xD

lol Genius! I've never been trolled (don't post enough for it), but I'm definitely saving this.

Between your emote pic and Ianto eatting the grape on the side, I'm becoming very jealous of certain foods. lol

I wrote this a while ago as my way of getting over myself after someone tried trolling me. I went a *teeny bit* mental and nearly deleted my journal, then realised actually: I can get some crack out of this. I wrote my little guide, and then just never posted it. I found it by accident yesterday, and what with ... a few things that were happening on the internet, decided it was a sign to finally post it.

Haha! Love it. I take comfort in the fact that their arguments generally boil down to "You're an ugly stupid head and so's your dad". Naturally, to all the other trolls, this is a perfectly valid, well-founded, and articulately stated argument. One that will surely inspire a myriad of philosophical, favourable responses such as "Yeah!" and "I KNO RITE?"

But hey...they're basically just nine opinionated assholes typing on the internet.

I have to agree, in the experience I've had with trolls, they do come across as rather stupid. I got a comment once about one of my long SG-1 slash fics which basically read 'it was good but it would have been much better if it hadn't had Jack and Daniel fall in love, I don't like that pairing anyway, it would have been better if Jack fell in love with Sam.' I felt like pointing out to him/her that if they didn't like the Jack/Daniel pairing, not to read fics with them in it!!!

That's like .... stupid.

And if it makes you feel better, I can *well* see Jack/Daniel happening. *hmph @ troll*

If it was labeled as such, there's no excuse. And if it wasn't, they still could have backed out after seeing the pairing.

I ran into a troll by accident just yesterday, while trying to find some fic that had been reccedto me. This troll was the one who calls everyone who doesn't LOVE a certain fiction character a misogynist. (Always strikes me as funny, because I happen to think this character is a misogynist's wet dream.)

There's plenty of misogyny (and racism, sexism and homophobia) out there, and I think we should be diligent in pointing it out. Sometimes, the perpetrator can learn to avoid such hurtful things in the future. Scathing blasts of the kind favored by trolls tend to do more harm than good.

There ought to be a pretty wide range of opinion in which we can disagree without being guilty of bigotry. But the trolls seem determined not to make us better humans, but to steal our joy for the simple offense of holding a different opinion, and the misuse of labels is one of their weapons.

Clearly, the trolls have more issues than friends. They deserve a moment of pity, and no more, as we sidestep their festering carcasses and go on our merry way.

Oh, hon, why must you be so utterly made of awesome? :)

You have no idea the amount of times I've head-desked at the number of people who cannot follow Rule Number 1: "Don't Feed The Trolls!" Sadly, there is no cure for ignorance except for...well, ignoring the ignorant.

I've been quite lucky that I've managed to avoid trolls on teh interwebz for the most part...here's hoping it continues.

(...and don't think I missed that "Sound Of Music" reference tucked away in there, missy!)

hehehehe couldn't resist!

I don't really comment outside of my journal and a couple of other comms, so when I do come across a troll, it's because they've come to the comm/my journal.

It's only really happened once, but *sigh* I get so passionate about these things!

What a perfect guide. Love your suggestions for feeling better! Hope no recent trolls. If they're razzing your fics, they belong SOMEWHERE ELSE! I think you're awesome, so yes, ignore the trolls!
