Date: 2009-12-14 10:20 am (UTC)There's plenty of misogyny (and racism, sexism and homophobia) out there, and I think we should be diligent in pointing it out. Sometimes, the perpetrator can learn to avoid such hurtful things in the future. Scathing blasts of the kind favored by trolls tend to do more harm than good.
There ought to be a pretty wide range of opinion in which we can disagree without being guilty of bigotry. But the trolls seem determined not to make us better humans, but to steal our joy for the simple offense of holding a different opinion, and the misuse of labels is one of their weapons.
Clearly, the trolls have more issues than friends. They deserve a moment of pity, and no more, as we sidestep their festering carcasses and go on our merry way.

Date: 2009-12-14 07:11 pm (UTC)You have no idea the amount of times I've head-desked at the number of people who cannot follow Rule Number 1: "Don't Feed The Trolls!" Sadly, there is no cure for ignorance except for...well, ignoring the ignorant.
I've been quite lucky that I've managed to avoid trolls on teh interwebz for the most part...here's hoping it continues.
(...and don't think I missed that "Sound Of Music" reference tucked away in there, missy!)

Date: 2009-12-14 11:58 pm (UTC)I don't really comment outside of my journal and a couple of other comms, so when I do come across a troll, it's because they've come to the comm/my journal.
It's only really happened once, but *sigh* I get so passionate about these things!
