I was reading a post-Meat fic today and I realized how poorly drawn Gwen's character is. She's incredibly selfish, self-centered, and self-righteous. She doesn't benefit Torchwood or Jack all that much. It's not believable that Jack would believe he has anything to learn from her, except how to blunder into a situation she doesn't understand and make a mess of things. She's got so much heart, she's got to share it with Rhys, and Owen, and Jack, and....

OK. I'm going to stop I said I wouldn't get back up on my soapbox and here I am again, but this quote just reminds me how aggravating it is. Arrrrrrgh!

That is exactly what happened to me. At first I had what I call The Princess Leia Effect, ie good-looking woman with gun, able to hold her own with the boys and wear make-up, etc etc. However the longer it's gone on, the less I like her! And by Series 2, any Gwackishness felt terribly forced!

And then the more I watched, the more I found her whiney, whingey, tantrum-y and the sort of woman who I would ignore in a pub. There is a great deal of the 'Look at ME, Look at ME!' about her that really gets my goat!

I will give TW Series 4 2 episodes. If it turns into the Gwen Show, I'm otta here!

But you forget! Jack must have thought he needed to learn how to steal things and con people without getting caught from Gwen since he never told her that he already knew how. ;)

Your soapbox is very nice though. You should shout from it anytime Gwen is at fault. But since that might happen alot, maybe you can quietly shout. :)
