Do you think he's ruined the show then done a runner? Decided to go out with a bang?

As if he didn't piss off just as many American fans. Yes, Russ, come closer...

Yes, Russ, come closer...

I think it's psychopaths saying that to him in the street in the UK that's making him piss off to the US ... let him know he's no longer welcome 'til we gets Yantoes back!

I wonder what the fan reaction will be at the Torchwood panel at San Diego Comic Con given CoE will have just aired that week on BBC America.

That's shocking, but he has a point. We make A LOT of television over here. He's becoming too big for the confines (as I understand it) of the BBC. Because he has all these great shows under his belt, he can draw more power over here, and then like he said, learn a lot more and bring it back.

I think it spells the end of Torchwood, though, but then I thought that after seeing the end of CoE.

[identity profile] diggybear.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
I'm wondering if this means he'd make the same type of show just based in America, like one based about UNIT or something.

[identity profile] diggybear.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
I did balk for a bit at the part of the article that says "Torchwood, starring Eve Myles." No mention of JB? If so, does that imply something about any future seasons of TW?

But I guess it makes sense that he'd come to the US. Didn't Julie Gardner make the move to Los Angeles or something like that?

[identity profile] a-silver-story.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
The Eve Myles comment made me jarr too. What the hell? Say "Eve Myles" to a randomer on the street and you get a funny look. Say "John Barrowman" and they either go "Oh god no ... not him again ... " or "Yayyyyyyyy Captain Jack Harkness! You know, I have all his CD's and his book and the audio book of his book and all the Torchwood and and Doctor Who DVDs - though I only have Children of Earth because they brought the release date forward and I couldn't cancel my pre-order ..."

Another popular reaction would probably be: "John Barrowman? Dammit I wish he was straight!"

Thats going to be interesting. In the US they got money, so it is claimed but they are strict over there. His ego has really grown lately.

If he ruined Torchwood because of this he is not going to be popular

[identity profile] diggybear.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, if anything I think the pressure for him to make a successful show here from the start will be greater. Because shows do get canceled mid-season or never even get picked up from a pilot.

Aw sweety! I'm just a harmless fan! I love you, and Torchwood, especialy COE. Now come on in for some coffee or tea and we can talk more about it, like Ianto Jones for instance...

I'll have to refrain from sharpening my knives or poisoning him with paint if he ever comes near me. And he certainly won't be able to pull that king of shotty writn over here, the networks cancel on a whim.

[identity profile] a-silver-story.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 06:57 am (UTC)(link)
Make it lead based paint. It'll get him faster.

[identity profile] diggybear.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
the networks cancel on a whim.

That is so true.

I wonder if BBCA is trying their hand at original programs starting in the US and crossing over to BBC. Hmmm.

[identity profile] rosy5000.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
And does he think he's going to be safe here? *cackles maniacally* I may have to find a way to get cross country and make a visit to Hollywood... I'm sure there are plenty of non-violent ways to torture someone so the torturer can't be incriminated. *looks innocent*

And yeah, 'starring Eve Myles'? Is that why John's name is in the credits first? Hmmm....

*clings to Ianto*

[identity profile] liannac.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 08:12 am (UTC)(link)
If he is going to America does this also spell the end for Doctor Who and The Sarah Jane Adventures. I also didn't like the way the article said 'Torchwood starring Eve Myles' what happened to John and Gareth have they suddenly become invisble.
All I can say is, he better watch himself at SDCC there are going to be alot of pissed off Torchwood fans.

[identity profile] a-silver-story.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 08:35 am (UTC)(link)

It's the Saint Gwen show - didn't any body tell you?

RTD's already left as head writer of Doctor Who, so that's safe. Steven Moffat - who wrote classic episodes such as "Girl in the Fireplace", "The Empty Child/Doctor Dances" and - who could possibly ever forget - "Blink", has taken over.

[identity profile] charlotte3006.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, Russell. Running away seems to be a recurring theme for you and your characters, doesn't it!!!
Get your arse back here and face the damage you did!!!
I hope we can trust our American cousins to cause as much uproar in the next week as we did.

[identity profile] zsazsa4168.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 10:57 am (UTC)(link)
As a Yank, who has grown increasingly embarrassed about the quality of our TV and movie output, I find RTD's move even more confusing/alarming. Perhaps it's just a case of the grass being greener on the other side, but the reason I subscribe to BBCAmerica is so I can occasionally see some quality telly. No matter how much power RTD might have in the UK, in Hollywood it will be greatly diminished and the corporate pressure to create what sells (rather than something really unique and good) is overwhelming.
Please put me in a cryochamber and wake me when he's come to his senses.

[identity profile] alchemistpotion.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 09:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Amen to that! Quality telly: shows canceled by fox, shows writen by Joss Whedon or JJ Abrams, BBC America. The rest is just awful reality, bad drama and Law and Order clones!

[identity profile] tati71.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 11:44 am (UTC)(link)
RTD in the States? Probabily because right now nobody in the UK would *ever* watch anything written/produced by him XD
I'm still scared of what he's going to do with the season finale of Dr. Who...
As for me, he could go to the North Pole and still I'll never watch anything else made by him **
It will take years to glue my heart's pieces together >

[identity profile] cutehasi.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
I get the impression he's done this all on purpose..destroying his series, making all fans angry and then moving and maybe hiding so he can say at the end that's the fault of the move to usa that he can't make a 4. season or so. >_>
Something is wrong!

I'm really curious of the panel...how will it goes...

[identity profile] diggybear.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe the plan is for him to bow out of TW s4, which will be taken over by someone else like DW.

[identity profile] morwencath.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
To me this this just cements the fact that this was his plan all along. He probably pushed for the stripped series so he could get it all over with faster and get out of Dodge. He could have done it without killing Ianto and destroying Jack though, to me that's just petty " I'm leaving and breaking my toys so you can't play with them" behavior. If he wanted to leave the BBC because he didn't like them controlling or compromising his work then he will get a rude awakening here. Joss Whedon is a prime example of that.

After all is said and done, JB will be fine, he always bounces back although I feel bad for him, I think he really loved the character of Captain Jack and there seemed to be a lot of JB in Jack. Gareth is the one I worry about, I've never understood why he wasn't getting more work. I think he is a very talented actor and took a few throwaway lines and scenes and turned them into one of the most popular characters in sci-fi fandom. I have no illusions that we will ever see Ianto on screen again, and at this point Gareth is probably trying to move on. I just hope we will get to see him in a new series soon.....

As for RTD, he's made his bed and now has to lie in it. I hope he's comfortable but I'm sure he is because he obviously doesn't live in the same world we all do. If he did CoE would never have happened.

Actually, in my world it didn't. I just listened to The Dead Line and now I'm waiting for season 3 of Torchwood which chronicles the adventures of Captain Jack, Ianto and Gwen as they struggle to rebuild TOrchwood 3 after the events of Exit Wounds and protect Cardiff and the world from aliens and the rift. Oh and the blossoming relationship with Jack/Ianto is explored in depth as well (Hee).

Sorry for this long rambling post. I'm not a fic writer, at least nothing I am confident to share with anyone but I have felt the need to say something in print to help me get past this long torturous week. Thanks to anyone who took the time to read. The hurt is starting to heal.

[identity profile] cutehasi.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 01:53 pm (UTC)(link)
That's actually what I'm thinking, but it still seems surreal! One week I'm bouncy and happy in the Torchwood universe and then the other week everything is thrown apart and I can't get my head around it.

What does he think, that he'll be safer here in the US? He really doesn't give us credit. We can be pretty damn brutal to dumbfucks. Just look at the crime rates.

Sure, RTD, come over here. We shall rip you apart into teeny tiny pieces before we take over Torchwood and do it right.

[identity profile] diggybear.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I just thought of something since I just watched "THE" scene on youtube. RTD is coming to America to make shows here. Perhaps he has ideas/something in the works and already knows who he wants to star in it which is why our beloved teaboy is gone.

*crosses fingers*

I love Ianto but if that means GDL has a place in a new RTD series maybe even with a bigger role... Would we be pleased?

[identity profile] lipi5-pilivh.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, exactly what i've been thinking for the last couple of days. There's got to be something we are missing, there's got to be a big reason for our Ianto to be gone. This is a very talented writer and a sensible man_or so i've heard_we are talking about. What if all this is nothing more but a cruel way of getting much more attention for_hopefully_a couple or more years of the show? What if we have been deceived purposedly to keep in contact with the latest news on everything concerning TW? Wouldn't it be a way_sadistic, risky, and yet well conceived_of keeping fandom around the world (al least this part of the world you know)craving for anything on our favorite fictional characters? Of course, what a way to sell new seasons of TW, or of any other spin-offs. It just doesn't make sense. It would be stupid to relay only on "Saint Gwen" to make a brilliant crossover if really this is RTD purpose. Sorry for my mistakes. English is not my native language.

[identity profile] quiseralarissa.livejournal.com 2009-07-12 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, I don't want him anymore! I know it's awful but I kind of hope he crashes and burns over here. I'm so over him.

I think I'd be much happier about it all if Torchwood ended now. How exciting would it be to watch Gwen and Jack run around for an hour? It wouldn't. Let it rest peacefully in re-run heaven.

[identity profile] silverearthelf.livejournal.com 2009-07-13 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
We don't want him! He's pissed off just as many of us!
