A very brief look at "Border Princes" by Dan Abnett and what I thought about it.

CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH THAT THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS.

... and I think we all know how I feel about spoilers *folds arms and taps foot*

Border Princes

Well ... another male member of Torchwood = another chance for Gwen to have another affair. Seriously. It's like she's ... I dunno ... thick, or something. If we count eye-fucking Jack, she's slept with more men than Jack could manage in a week. (In case you're wondering ... Jack manages one. Ianto. I don't care what anyone says. Jack's a one man man. DID YOU LISTEN TO THE SAME "DEAD LINE" I DID??? OMG ... need to calm down ... this isn a review of something that happened ages ago in the canon and OMG OMG OMG IANTOOOOOOOOOO!!!)

Speaking of Ianto, there was an alright amount of him in this book. And there were a couple of glimpses of Jack and Ianto alone - with Ianto predicting his needs and being all *pats on head* with his coffee machine).

Owen wasn't as much of a dick as usual. In fact, he was so nice ... it was almost OOC - what? In the first three Torchwood novels? NEVER!!

Toshiko was very sarcastic and judgemental. I'd say she was - in all honesty - a bit OOC.

JACK - yeah ... Jack would definitley refer to old people with dergatory terms such as "Who's the old geezer?", wouldn't he? And if he knew that Gwen was having an affair behind Rhys' back, he'd fully support her and her new fella, right? Yah ... OOC.

It's a pity about the OOC, really. The plot is really good - lots of twists and turns. I couldn't put the damn thing down for the first two thirds of it ... but then it was one twist too many, really. Had to quite force myself through the last three chapters or so.

Don't get me wrong = this is a good book. But better to pace yourself than wolf it down or you'll just get tired of twists and turns.

This was written by a very creative writer, and he had lots of really good ideas that I think he crammed in a little too hard.

I think that it's from this book that the plot bunny for "Adam" may have been born. Though James didn't really know what was going on.

OO! And Gwen went to Manchester Piccadilly! That made my life a bit happier. Ish. Would have preferred Ianto, but he was busy being all conspiratory with Owen and Jack.

Overall, I think a 7/10.

An entertaining read when digested a little slower than desperate, but very OOC. There's some cute little running ideosyncrasies that make the characters believable in their own right, but not as the characters they're supposed to portray.

This book threw me at first and so much so that I had to reread the beginning a few times. I did find Gwen and James to be odd and the fact that their relationship was supported. The OOCness bothered me but the plot wasn't bad.
