Re your footnote: I had pretty much the same thing happen with some of the girls in my class. Most of them had heard me wittering on about Jack and Ianto, but some of them STILL didn't realise that they were together, and then when Ianto died they were all like "WTF? They were TOGETHER?!" (-_-)
