I didn't think it sounded mean! ^_^
And yes, I remember seeing a report from Comic Con where he said that in his opinion, his dad abused him so he made up a perfect father.
And yes, he said that Jack would have known the truth.
I think that Ianto is an impulsive liar - not like, to be mean or malicious, but to hide negativity.
I also think he's on the spectrum, and impulsive 'embellishment' kinda enforces this. :)
