I was planning on posting this part and the next part as one chapter ... but I think it works better a bit more staggered.

If by "better" you mean more frustrating, nerve-wracking, gut-clenching, irritating, cranky-making for the reader, then, yes, it's much, much better. In fact, it's bloody perfect!
