Warnings: M.M, rentboy!Ianto, Alternate Universe
Disclaimer: If I owned anything in this, I'd be a rich rich rich bitch. However, I am not a rich rich rich bitch so you may all, therefore, assume I own nothing. Which I don't. It all belongs RTD and the BBC, in case any of you didn't know. Now pass the retcon ...

Summary: Started as a PWP, but since it's me (sorry folks!) and I really can't do things by halves, it grew and grew and grew (and not in an innuendous sort of way). Doctor Smith owns a posh Cardiff hotel, and the respectable Sixth Earl of Boeshane is coming to stay - and he brings with him some very specific demands.

The story follows Ianto from being born, meeting Toshiko and them running away together to the city, right up until Ianto is taken to work in the Doctor's hotel as a 'service' butler for - you guessed it - Jack.

Everyone's fave OTP ensues. BOO YA!

... I saw Torchwood.

I mentioned writing a letter to the BBC in my last fic update, and interest was piqued so I shall post it here (I've already posted it on [livejournal.com profile] savecoffeeboy) for your perusal.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing in concern of the BBC's apparent neglect of viewers' feelings regarding the recent miniseries "Torchwood: Children of Earth". While I accept that many strong emotions (mostly negative) were drawn by the miniseries and much controversy has been raised as to the often uncalled for 'knee-jerk' reactions of fans, the obvious disregard by the British Broadcasting Company for the more level-headed criticisms and peaceful letters and complaints is unacceptable.

It has come to attention that, upon the release of the July and August BBC Complaints Summary it was not felt worthy of notation that the Company received many complaints regarding the miniseries 'Torchwood: Children of Earth', completely omitting any mention of such complaints from the report. While I concede that complaints about fictional shows may be handled differently (or indeed, taken less seriously) than those for a factual programme, surely the BBC have a social obligation to highlight the widespread upset and allegations about homophobia surrounding the miniseries as a 'serious issue'? These complaints centre not around the petty and repetitive use of derogatory terms used to describe a homosexual character, but the fact that one construct apparently had the ability to 'smell' homosexuality, commenting on it loudly while the straight characters around him did nothing but laugh. Also, they bring to light the issue of the character of Ianto Jones being marked with the lambda (an international symbol of Gay Pride) before being promptly, and unceremoniously, killed off by a mysterious and incurable virus. Obviously, such allegations have sparked a widespread debate that it is unnecessary to detail here, but the vocal objection to such things as being able to 'smell gay' and marking a character with a symbol that provokes positive notions about homosexuality before killing him should not be ignored.

I freely tell you that I have, myself, sent packages containing coffee to the BBC in Wales and London as part of the SaveIantoJones1 Campaign, and that I know of others who have done so, too. I know also that organizers of said movement keep a fair tally2 to gain an approximation of how much 'Save Ianto' mail has been posted (at least, posted by registered campaigners). It confuses me, then, as to why the BBC has deigned to misinform Messrs. Russell T. Davies and John Barrowman as to the amount of mail pertaining to the Save Ianto campaign that has been received - misinformation that has then been passed on to the public via interviews, conferences and podcasts. While a certain amount of possible 'damage control' is to be expected, placing an outright false number of 'nine' (then reduced to six) packets of coffee being received is purposefully both damaging and severely misleading. While I would also defend the fact that the interviews where these figures were offered to the public took place a couple of weeks ago, at the time of publication, recording or occurring, the number was already significantly - according to the unofficial tally - much higher and well into multiple figures. I have included at the bottom of this letter a full list of hyperlinks that will lead you to the relevant information to back up my claims, as well as evidence of other active projects the campaign is undertaking.

While the British Broadcasting Company may maintain the right to withhold exact information of how much mail they have received (a right they have informed us they have in reply to a Freedom of Information Act request sent earlier this year asking for such information), placing false and insulting numbers on how much their mailboxes have been impacted is deliberately misguiding audiences and fans, as well as ignoring the voices of their own license-fee paying viewers unhappy with elements of a product they have released. I find it unacceptable, also, that legitimate complaints about delicate issues and low-quality television are being completely ignored for whatever reason the BBC have decided upon.

The British Broadcasting Company is a service, and as such should strive to at least acknowledge the upset of its customers and avoid misinforming the public, and also those ignorant of the current movement surrounding 'Torchwood: Children of Earth' and the controversies and allegations linked to it.

Yours sincerely,
