So, you're trying to get over a bit of writers' block ... and then This Happens (only click if you have a strong stomach or think the idea of Torchwood hiring a Lovable Paedophile is a great move).

I suppose this should bring out my fighting spirit, and rekindle the fire so to speak, but it just depresses me to think that RTD would ruin his own show like this - and a show I loved. It's like he's trying to mess it all up.

kholran and I think that it's probably RTD getting bored of killing off likable characters, so in order to make Gwen the Ultimate Icon rather than the Flawed Character (FFS! AS A FLAWED CHARACTER, SHE'D WORK PERFECTLY! STOP TRYING TO SHOVE HER DOWN OUR THROATS AS AWESOME! *ahem*) he's just creating repulsive ones instead. Oh, and recycling Toshiko from Classic Torchwood with a new ethnic minority, and Mulder from a show that isn't even his.

Obviously, I praying it's a hoax, but TV Guide picked up the story so now I'm not so sure. It's so ridiculous, it might just be true.

So while Torchwood is, as I said, dead to me, that doesn't mean I want to stop writing just yet. Yes, I've got writers' block just as

tw_bigbang posts their reminder that drafts are due in a month and I haven't updated for a fortnight and my entire fic file is at a standstill, but I'm not giving up on Jack and Ianto just yet. Things will get going again, no matter what RTD tries to do with this bastardized version of Torchwood.

I might send an email to the BBC asking if they would consider giving Torchwood to Super Moff.

I'm going to watch the new season as a new show all together and think of Torchwood as only being two seasons.

Goodness knows JKR fucked over Sirius/Remus shippers with all the insanity/out of character-ness in the 6th and 7th books, but that sure doesn't mean we've stopped shipping.

(Hell, I may or may not have found evidence in the 7th book, *after Remus gets married to Tonks* that supports my ship. :P)

A couple of places are saying its a hoax. One link I put up on my journal says its a copy of the casting call for the US version of "Scoundrels", not Torchwood. My guess is someone got ahold of it, thought it would be fun to stir up the fans, made a few edits in photoshop and voila! Instant fanwank!

Even if the people saying its a hoax don't have a backup for it, look at it closely. Theres too many nods to fandom stuff in there for it to be an actual casting call sheet.

And yes, Matheson was GDL's character. Rex is also the name of Tenant's character from the show NBC didn't pick up. And basically having 2 characters who are Tosh and Owen 2.0, and a pedo character named Jones as a thinly veiled slap at Ianto fans? I dislike RTD immensely, but even he is not that stupid. That and I don't think Julie and Starz would let him get away with it.

That's what I've been saying to myself. Then someone reminds me of some huge plot hole or Bad Science, or something he said in an interview or a con ... and I start to wonder.

I do read the call and think '... that can't be real ...', so I shall go with my instincts for now, I suppose. But I am more than certain that Torchwood as I knew and loved it ceased production in 2007, and will most likely never return to those heights.

The Torchwood I knew and loved died at the end of season 2 with the death of Owen (and despite what people say, I talk to Burn, Owen's being written out came as a surprise but he made his peace with it once he became a zombie and there was nothing else you could do with the character...but it wasn't his choice to leave). I still can't watch "Exit Wounds" without sobbing. But yet I keep on watching the show because I love it at some level despite all its faults.

I've seen 'Exit Wounds' three times, and it really wrenches my heart to watch it. JB mentioned his his book how surprised they all were when Tosh and Owen were killed off.

I didn't like CoE - I preferred Happy Campy Escapist Torchwood that didn't take itself seriously, not Character Destroying Srz Dramaz Avec Child Torture Torchwood. Nevertheless I shall watch the first episode of the new series, no matter what spoilers or pre-publicity might say. It might - just might, and that's a very BIG MIGHT - surprise us all and actually be good.

I don't know though - previous to CoE, RTD only wrote one episode of Torchwood, and to be honest I don't think he should have as much claim to it as he does. As far as I'm concerned the creation and development of the characters was more Chibnall than Davies, since Chibnall actually wrote them.

But legal is as legal does, and here we are. I shall give new Torchwood a chance and see how it goes, but I have ... doubts, let's say.

Exxxxxxactly. I personally thought the drama would have been more serious had Ianto survived and had to witness what Jack had to do to save the world - would he stop it? Would he stand back and watch? Would he turn away from Jack or stand by him? Would he help them do it?

No. He just dropped down dead, because what with everything going on there simply wasn't enough drama to see us through the episode - and the one failsafe of every writer? The Common Misconception that Death Progresses the Narrative In a Dramatically Intrinsic Way.

Men in very small clothes? Try naked at least 50% of the time. And you don't just see shots from the rear. Theres one gladiator introduced about halfway thru...hung like a horse. I swear they saved money in the production budget by having people naked or half-naked most of the time. And for her age, Lucy Lawless looks freaking gorgeous naked. She's taken very good care of herself. I could do without seeing John Hannah naked and having sex though. If you get a chance, check it out, its actually a really smart drama. The character death is actually well placed in the story, seeing as its set at a gladiator school and about their lives.

Hmmm. I'll give it a go when this series has finished so I can watch it all in one, I think. Especially if there's nekkidness.

Failing that, I'm sure someone will have screencapped it. Meticulously.

I grew up on Xena. I adore Lucy Lawless - so I suppose as long as her character does die ... haha! I'm character biased based on the hotness of the actor already. It's me and Owen all over again!

Season 1 has ended. Its 13 eps. Season 2 was on hold while Andy Whitfield (who plays Spartacus) was going thru cancer treatment. Theres a 6 ep prequel about Lucretia and Batiatus (Lawless and Hannahs characters) thats going to air this summer. Both their characters are manipulative, power hungry people, but they are fascinating to watch. I find myself amazed by Johh Hannah, considering the only things I think I've ever seen him in was the Mummy movies with Brendan Fraser.

that is exactly what i thought! or to make it even more angsty/ dramatic etc why not have jack have to kill ianto's niece instead of his own grandson then you can have rhiannon in bits shouting at everyone left right and centre, jack in pieces and ianto not having a clue where his loyalties lay! i mean it'd be perfect, bit of crying, shouting etc lovely then they could have ended it with maybe ianto going away somewhere for a bit having been disowned by his sister who blames him and have jack on top of the building watching the boat leave or something then series 4 could've been ianto coming back and so on and so foorth and they'd even have an arc with ianto and jack having to build their relationship up! see, i sohlud write for torchwood:P

Seriously, if that's not a fake then that all sounds like a horrible idea and should be scrapped with extreme prejudice. Turning Torchwood into the X-Files just doesn't do it for me.

I wonder if there will be any sci-fi elements at all in GnuTorchwood? Wouldn't surprise me if that element got nixed completely in favour of EXPLOSIONS AND DRAMA. Turning Torchwood into 24 also doesn't do it for me, by the way.

I once saw a con panel where someone had found out a spoiler for Ianto's death and asked him about it. I think this is deliberate (and that's why all these sites have exact same information); they're trying to prevent spoilers like that from happening by throwing all of this false info out there.

Yet with this I really am hoping it's a hoax. Because seriously? These characters are just plain.... eeeh I think RTD has had enough of Torchwood and is destroying it so he can work on shows with the US.

However personally I don't think RTD actually liked Ianto from the start (although who couldn't like Yan is just plain silly *huggles Ianto*) because he was originally going to kill him off in Cyberwoman and then he was going to be the one in Reset before they decided on Owen.... and I don't know I just think he needed a reason too.

But putting rant aside.... Torchwood will always be season one and two. Children of Earth does not exist for me.

I agree that RTD didn't like Ianto -- and I think what really set him off is that fans were swooning over him (and Jack and him) rather than his own personal Ms. Snow White. I truly believe that's the real reason he killed Ianto -- to get back at fans for not falling in line with loving the witch and to get rid of the competition for Jack's interest.

I can't even begin to tell you how much I hate RTD.

RTD...For some reason I never much liked his later DW or TW season finales, they've too much grandstanding. To be very, very honest with you, I like Steven Moffat's DW season 5 finale, with all its cleverness and timey-wimey puzzles much better.
