The New Torchwood Book Covers ...

Okay, so The Undertaker's Gift, Consequences and Risk Assessment are all due for release in the UK on the 1st of October, and I just went over to play.com to see if they'd released the cover images yet. Lo and behold! - what a kick in the teeth!

Ianto doesn't even get his own cover this time around! Why does this annoy me so much? - aside from the fact these books are supposedly Ianto's final outing in the Whoniverse and he doesn't even get his own cover? Talk about kicking a fictional construct when he's down!

... and they cropped out his gun ... THE GUN THAT HE NEVER FREAKIN' HAD!! ... come to think of it ... were any of you watching CoE thinking "Maybe he steals the gun from Johnson's men ... oh they're at an army base. Does he get his machine gun now? Okay the hand gun didn't burst the tank ... maybe he grabs his machine gun to do it ... WTF? He's dying and he didn't even get the big arse gun they've spent the past nine months drumming into us via publicity shots and photographs he's going to lay his hands on?" - anyone else, or just me?

*goes away to reminisce about Bay of the Dead and The Twilight Streets covers ... with a couple of passages from Pack Animals and Almost Perfect for good measure ...*

EDIT: Also ... in the bottom images of two of the books, Gwen is front and centre like she's the main character (something I've noticed on a couple of CoE promos). I thought Torchwood was Jack's series? Hmmmm

EDIT 2: Rile ye'selves! The original covers released in April had a Ianto cover!

Ianto was a blank

Wow, I seem to have missed the "Ianto was a blank" comment (which is probably good for my blood pressure!). Can you point me to the interview or whatever where RTD said this please, so that I can read it for myself?

I find myself thinking more and more "Come back, Chris Chibnall, all is forgiven!" At least he gave Ianto a better outing than RTD did.

I can't remember what interview it was in - I think it was linked in [livejournal.com profile] savecoffeeboy, but it was a while ago. Maybe google the phrase? Sorry I can't be more helpful x

Hmm, I've scrolled back through the comm and can only find the interviews I've seen already, and googling the phrase gets me:

Rusty added: “GROW UP! It’s a TV character!

“Granted, I was never that fond of Ianto to begin with – he was a blank as far as I’m concerned, but death threats?

“Come on, people!”

which seems to actually be a comment to the Wales Online article about the fan "overreaction" to Ianto's death. Is it RTD commenting, or just someone with the username "Rusty"?

Or have I found the wrong end of the stick entirely, and the phrase is from an actual interview with RTD? Just trying to get the facts, here.

I think it's a quote, but all I know is what was said on [livejournal.com profile] savecoffeeboy. I try to avoid reading comments on external sites because of negativity - so there's the possibility it's either a quote, or I've seen that copied and pasted into the comm and thought it was an interview.

I know several people were complaining that "RTD said he was a blank" and stuff like that - so either it is a quote, or several of us have mistaken it for one.

Have you tried putting a post on the comm asking if anyone else knows where it is, or if it's just a case of misunderstanding?

Thanks, good suggestion. A job for next weekend when I next have some "spare" time.
