SPOILER ALERT: "The Bay of the Dead" Torchwood Book review

A very brief look at "The Bay of the Dead" by Mark Morris and what I thought about it.

CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH THAT THIS POST IS SO SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS.

... and I think we all know how I feel about spoilers *folds arms and taps foot*

Torchwood + Zombies = AMAZEMENT!

Ohhhhh I loved this one! Then again, I am a sucker for zombies, but this was a really good romp-zom-com. It was really funny and gory and scary at the same time and the characterizations were spot-on. Especially as far as Jack and Ianto's exchanges were concerned. Funny funny funny.

I now have a new Ianto Jones quote: "Just ignore him. He likes to show off. He's not even a real American."

It was nice to see the team properly divided. You got a good look at the relationships between the smaller units - namely Rhys with Gwen and Jack with Ianto. (oh yeah ... lots of Janto. Ish. Lot's of them talking to each other without other people looming over them anyway. OOH and Ianto delivers a baby!).

The plot is really good - I didn't figure it out until the end, which I loved. My only qualm was that the writer kept referring to Jack as Ianto's 'friend'. "Ianto listened to his friend ... Ianto searched for his friend etc etc ...". Made me go: "Hmmmmmmm ... yah ...". I'm a Janto shipper. Maybe that's why it annoyed me ...

There were some really nice moments though - Jack kissing Ianto on the head when he basically went off to his own death. And also when he insisted that Ianto went first to the helicopter (the fact he was unarmed was welllll only an excuse. ;] He said Ianto's name wayyy to fast to have considered those facts, given that situation.)

Ooh! And Gwen did give me a moment of annoyance when she had to do her whole Saint Gwen routine with the Samuelses. Still ... everyone made it out alive thanks to Rhys.

*sigh* I wish I had a Rhys. And a Ianto. And I wouldn't mind a Jack.

If you have a living, breathing version of any of the above, message me and I'll send you a postal address.

Anyways ... back on track ...

Overall, I think it may be my new favourite Torchwood novel (my previous favourite being "The Twilight Streets" - that also had Ianto on the cover. Patterns, people??). So yes! I think I'll give it a whopping 9.99/10, losing out on that 0.09% because Jack's only Ianto's 'friend'. Petty, but ... fook em.

I've read a review about this book earlier on and the person was annoyed as well with the 'friendship' between Jack and Ianto. It's annoying that some are trying to ignore the facts:-)

Can't wait till my copies of the new books arrives:D

I just found a store in my country that think they may get the books ao I'm trying to find the more "Janto" ones because it's nto like my pocket can pay for all of them at once, so thanks for this, it's helping me decide.

Favourite Janto ones are Twilight Streets, Almost Perfect and Pack Animals.

Pack Animals is uber-Janto-y. They goes on a date and Jack introduces him as his boyfriend. ^_^

When I get round to it I'll post the reviews.

I re-read this in the aftermath of C of E because something was bugging me. I found it - there's a bit which is particularly poignant bearing in mind the events of Day One of C of E. I won't put what here, I'm not being cryptic on purpose (well I suppose I am!) but if anybody has read it and not seen the show I don't want to spoil things. If you want me to, I can do, but not without your permission.
I'm sure you know what I'm talking about anyway. It's a conversation between Jack and Ianto.

I know exactly what you're talking about.

There's a moment of Jack's thoughts in "the House that Jack Built" that foreshadowed CoE as well.

Can't think what that one is off hand, will go back and have another read.

I think this was the best new book other then the fact that,as you say,Jack is referd to as Ianto's 'friend'...
