Title: Torchwood Hallowe'en
Chapter: 05/08
Characters: Janto Team!fic
Author: [personal profile] a_silver_story
Genre Horrorrrrrr.
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Erm ... hopefully it's scary. Minor gore.
Disclaimer: If I owned anything in this, I'd be a rich rich rich bitch. However, I am not a rich rich rich bitch so you may all, therefore, assume I own nothing. Which I don't. It all belongs RTD and the BBC, in case any of you didn't know.

Summary: Ianto decides to do the decade-ly inventory of the Archives - with rather scary results (and I'm not talking about bad organisation skills). Slight crossover with Doctor Who S3.

Note #1: This story was written the October before 'The Time of Angels' and 'Flesh and Stone' aired, so please don't message me regarding any inconsistencies with canon you may find.

Note #2: I've deleted the original version of this from LJ, and am posting this corrected version one chapter at a time, one day at a time.

Chapter Four )

Gwenwood

Jul. 24th, 2010 01:50 pm
a_silver_story: (Default)
Well ... a 'promotional image' of TW has surfaced, over on SFX (I haven't read the interview because it's with RTD, and I'll probably just get angry).

So ... erm ... yeah?

WHUT DA FECK?

Composition with only two subjects has to be of the same 'status', otherwise the picture leans. See how the skyscrapers they tried to balance it out with LEAN because the right side of the image is taken up by SMALL Jack since there isn't enough room for him next to DOMINANT Gwen. Maybe the skyscraper will fall on him and bury him for a billion years so that he can't interfere with Gwenwood.

Why did I promise myself I'd watch the first few episodes of this? I hope to GOD some kind of MIRACLE happens and something DECENT is produced, because I won't be able to get those hours of my life back.

EDIT: At least I got my new series of 'Animals at Work', and I have to say there's far more interesting drama in chicken-guarding alpacas than in RTD's left horn!
a_silver_story: (Default)

So, you're trying to get over a bit of writers' block ... and then This Happens (only click if you have a strong stomach or think the idea of Torchwood hiring a Lovable Paedophile is a great move).

I suppose this should bring out my fighting spirit, and rekindle the fire so to speak, but it just depresses me to think that RTD would ruin his own show like this - and a show I loved. It's like he's trying to mess it all up.

[livejournal.com profile] kholran and I think that it's probably RTD getting bored of killing off likable characters, so in order to make Gwen the Ultimate Icon rather than the Flawed Character (FFS! AS A FLAWED CHARACTER, SHE'D WORK PERFECTLY! STOP TRYING TO SHOVE HER DOWN OUR THROATS AS AWESOME! *ahem*) he's just creating repulsive ones instead. Oh, and recycling Toshiko from Classic Torchwood with a new ethnic minority, and Mulder from a show that isn't even his.

Obviously, I praying it's a hoax, but TV Guide picked up the story so now I'm not so sure. It's so ridiculous, it might just be true.

So while Torchwood is, as I said, dead to me, that doesn't mean I want to stop writing just yet. Yes, I've got writers' block just as [livejournal.com profile] tw_bigbang posts their reminder that drafts are due in a month and I haven't updated for a fortnight and my entire fic file is at a standstill, but I'm not giving up on Jack and Ianto just yet. Things will get going again, no matter what RTD tries to do with this bastardized version of Torchwood.

I might send an email to the BBC asking if they would consider giving Torchwood to Super Moff.

N/B.: Wasn't 'Matherson' the name of GDL's character in Girl Number Nine? And making 'Jones' the paedophile? What's with that?

Torchwood series 4 Announced

According to the quote in the article, it's going to be 'bigger and bolder than ever' (what? again? Bigger and bolder than ever ... again? FFS! 'bigger and bolder' doesn't exactly translate well. Look at Jurassic Park II and the TRex in San Diego! May have been bigger ... certainly wasn't 'better'.)

Thankfully not an American reboot (thank Christ they dropped that idea), but it will be a ten episode, three-way production between BBC Cyrmu, BBC Worldwide and American network Starz with RTD, Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter in charge. Instead of being based in Cardiff, it's going to be all over the place in 'international locations'.

Just what the Torchwood fans wanted. Definitely. Without a doubt. I mean, one of the things we LOVED about CoE was that it wasn't in Cardiff, right?

Why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why can't they just FUCKING. STAY. IN. CARDIFF? And WTF? Gwen's still in Torchwood? Does she lose her baby somehow? Surely Gwen isn't so irresponsible (okay - she's had her moments, but when it comes to kids, parents generally have some form of clarity) as to continue work for Torchwood with a dependent child? I mean ... it's not like she KNOWS RTD will NEVER EVER kill her ....

Maybe she'll just be wandering around in the background like Donna did in the End of Time, with no discernible or real reason for being there other than LOOK AT THE POPULAR ACTRESS! LOOK! WE DIDN'T FORGET HER AFTER WE BALLSED UP HER STORYLINE!

And JACK - sending Jack off-planet at the end of CoE always confused me. Cuz ... there was no way they weren't gonna bring him back. What a waste of my screen time.

JACK: I'm going. I can't ever return here. This planet is a graveyard to me.

[an appropriate amount of plot happens (though probably not very much, really)]

JACK: IMMA BACK, AND IT'S GONNA BE BIGGA AND BETTA THAN EVARRRRR!

Maybe series four will be Jack taking Rhys, Gwen and Baby around all the places he visited on his six months travelling after torturing his grandson to death.

Despite my instantly negative reaction, I will have to give it a go. There is the teeniest, tiniest smidgen of chance that it might actually be worth the time and effort. My biggest drawbacks are a) WTF NOT IN CARDIFF? WHY WHY WHY??? WHAT ABOUT THE RIFT?

REMEMBER THE RIFT???????

and b) RTD is writing again. Could he at least have a beta this time? Please? Maybe a continuation whiteboard to go with his new, shiny, US office?

Cuz ... srsly ... USA can keep him.

EDIT: As [livejournal.com profile] iantogodeo pointed out, there's no mention of Kai Owen or Tom Price. Maybe Rhys and Andy ran away together with Gwen's baby, and that's why it's vaguely sane for Gwen to still be with Torchwood. Rhys + Andy= Rhandy. CSI: Cardiff could still happen.

Title: Silver Service

Genre: AU, Romance, Angsty, fluffy
Rating: NC17 / 18
Pairings: Main Pairing is Jack/Ianto. Also includes Ianto/Martha, Ianto/Tosh friendship, Ten/Tosh, Mickey/Martha (mentioned)
Warnings: M.M, rentboy!Ianto, brief Het, Alternate Universe
Disclaimer: If I owned anything in this, I'd be a rich rich rich bitch. However, I am not a rich rich rich bitch so you may all, therefore, assume I own nothing. Which I don't. It all belongs RTD and the BBC, in case any of you didn't know. Now pass the retcon ...

Summary: Started as a PWP, but since it's me (sorry folks!) and I really can't do things by halves, it grew and grew and grew (and not in an innuendous sort of way). Doctor Smith owns a posh Cardiff hotel, and the respectable Sixth Earl of Boeshane is coming to stay - and he brings with him some very specific demands.

The story follows Ianto from being born, meeting Toshiko and them running away together to the city, right up until Ianto is taken to work in the Doctor's hotel as a 'service' butler for - you guessed it - Jack.

The chapter is quite bleak *sowwi* - but that's what good drama is, people! It makes you wish you'd never bloody bothered.

Don't worry - unlike some writers, I do believe in happy endings - for fiction, at any rate.

The Undertaker's Gift by Trevor Baxendale
(in six minutes)

I had intended to review this, but the book lent itself to mocking in ways that could only be truly appreciated if you've read the book. So instead, I have compressed the plot into a bite-size chunk of readability, while still maintaining the true essence and character of the book.

Whether you intend to read the novel or not, this should make sense and still be funny. Hopefully.

Obviously this post contains SPOILERS for 'The Undertaker's Gift' Torchwood novel by Trevor Baxendale, if you're a die-hard Gwack fan, you might be able to stomach it (seriously - even if you're not anti-Gwen, it makes you cringe. I included a few such moments in the compression as examples).

This is purely crack for the sake of crack.

According to Hollywood Reporter, The Terribly Bad Idea aka "Torchwood USA" has been rejected by FOX. Apparently there are talks with 'other interested networks', but already I see one rejection after another.

Just leave it in BBC Wales, ffs.

No where else wants it because it won't work anywhere else!

Well, guess who's been depressed lately?

But enough of that! Down, children!

I'm back, despite spending the last few days ripping my hair out over silly arguments and trying to keep the peace when no one will really tell me what's going on (and the less said about that, the better), I have been thinking an awful lot about RTD's rather genius idea to try and sell the Torchwood format to FOX.

I admit, I was wary of the idea at first. FOX - the most conservative station in the United States of America - taking over and possibly maybe but not quite yet ordering a pilot for a script they never actually asked for? What could possibly go wrong? If you ask me, that's a smash-hit waiting to happen, considering how everyone is rushing and fighting to claim the rights to the franchise.

So, taking a leaf out of Joss Whedon's book, I have decided to write an open letter to the BBC detailing, in my opinion, the best possible move they could now make for Torchwood [warnings for slight CoE and RTD bash]:

Dear BBC,

I am writing to make you a serious offer for the currently ruined and tattered BBC Wales series Torchwood, before you actually consider selling the format to the US station FOX. After speaking with my accountant, we have assessed its current value and have decided to make you an offer that you simply cannot possibly refuse.

Right now, I hold in my hand a cheque for £100 for the entire franchise, including the rights to continue it into a fourth series on BBC Wales with a new creative team at the helm. I propose that said team may or may not include myself, Chris Chibnall, Joseph Lidster and a five-year-old child with wax crayons to substitute the sorely missed Russell T. Davies.

I would also request that my online friend who I've never actually physically met, [livejournal.com profile] kholran, is allowed to fly over for the duration of the production process. I wish to introduce a brand new concept to Torchwood that will hopefully bring radical change and further strength to the writing and production of the series. This invigorating and original concept is called the 'Continuation Whiteboard', and already I can see it being a huge success. I told Khol that she could be the one to write on it, as long as she doesn't draw cocks.

As I have already paid my license fee for this year, the total I shall be offering in payment (including this non-optional fee) for the Torchwood franchise will be £255.99, which also includes my proffered cheque for £100 and the £15.99 I paid for my rather disappointing and extra-feature-free DVD copy of Torchwood: Children of Earth.

Please consider this generous offer - as Jesus said, the poor man who gives all he has is more generous than the rich man who gives a large portion (or something along those lines) - and I am more than sure you can see just how profitable it will be for both the BBC and the reinvigoration of Torchwood as a show and institution to accept it.

Sincerely,

Silver

Purveyor of Slash Fiction and Tomfoolery
[hopefully soon-to-be Head Writer and Exec Producer of Torchwood)

On a different note, when I've finished pulling out of my Bad Place, I shall return to publishing fiction. Right now all I seem to be able to produce is Jack-hating bile, so do excuse me if I don't share it with you all in case you try and get me locked up. I was advised to publish it for catharsis, but have decided to go with my 'you still want readers' instinct.

If any of you can think of anything to cheer me up, please share before I turn away from this fandom for good.

Much love to all,

Silver

Hi everyone!

First off: apologies for the radio silence on my part. My old laptop contracted a virus (in no way related to the 456) and I've had to get a replacement. As a result I've had to spend the last week hand writing my stories. I'm typing up the finished ones at the moment, which includes Silver Service and Another Life. I have a plan for the next chapter of IM, but the inspiration is refusing to take me with that one.

Bah! Do I have catching up to do! I haven't even started to process End of Time part II properly yet (even though nearly half of it wasn't actually plot). I thought it was a real shame that I wasn't in any way emotionally involved with that story. I was ... apathetic. Not like I was with WoM, where I cared about what might happen. Still, at least it saved me the disappointment.

I'll save my thoughts and opinions about *that* scene for now, even though I've arguably had enough time to think back on it and consider it properly. spoiler behind this cut - tread with caution! )

I hope you all had a wonderful winter and New Year celebration - everything was going fine for me until we decided to play Family Fortunes. Now half of my family isn't talking to the other half because apparently on the list of the top five "Imaginative Things To Do With a Banana", 'Masturbate' was the top answer, not 'pretend it's a gun' - no matter what the card says.

Anyhoozle,

Sorry for the absence - I'm typing up fic as we speak (apart from when I'm typing this, or chatting to [livejournal.com profile] torchyj on MSN)
